STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

The global economy is changing. Current jobs are disappearing due to automation and new jobs are emerging every day as a result of technological advances.
The continual advances in technology are changing the way students learn, connect and interact every day. Skills developed by students through STEM provide them with the foundation to succeed at school and beyond.

At Rowville Primary School, students from Foundation to Year Six are encouraged to be critical and creative thinkers, problem solvers and collaborators in our specialist STEM program.
STEM lessons are designed to be hands on and project-based to build and broaden specific knowledge and skills found the science, technology, engineering and mathematics domains and are based on the Design and Technologies Victorian Curriculum; which encompasses technologies and society, technologies contexts and creating designed solutions.

Students are encouraged to be curious about the world we live in and undertake scientific research, perform experiments, carry out field work, formulate hypotheses, and collect and analyse data in the scientific fields of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth and Space. They then use this knowledge to create designed solutions using the engineering design process; integrating technology wherever possible. Mathematics is integral to all fields of science and is embedded in all of the learning.

Students in Years 3 and 4 apply the majority of their theoretical knowledge to building LEGO models through the e2 Young Engineers program; a program that uses LEGO brick kits especially designed for specific builds. Through this program, students also learn how to use LEGO WeDo to code their builds whilst learning logical reasoning skills and pattern recognition.

Our 21st Century Learning Space and our STEM Centre have been specifically designed to enhance the STEM experience at Rowville Primary School and encourage collaborative thinking and learning amongst our students.

Remote Learning

Welcome to the Rowville Primary School Remote Learning at Home page. When our school is closed we will help our students to stay connected with their learning, teachers and class peers.  Remote Learning offers an authentic opportunity to focus on concepts, skills and capabilities.  Our learning experiences will place an emphasis on academic learning, wellbeing and connection to family.  There will be a balance of on-screen and off-screen tasks that will connect with previous learning and build new learning.

Our Remote Learning program will build upon the partnership between home and school.

We believe that learning is continuous and that it happens at school and at home. Remote learning offers authentic opportunities to participate in learning through interaction with family and creativity.
Students will be involved in a balance of activities that will develop the whole child.

Communication Procedures

The school will use Compass and Google Classroom to share information amongst our school community in the event that our school is closed.
An announcement will be made on Compass if the school was to close informing the community of a start date for Remote Learning.

School Culture

We build a positive school culture at Rowville Primary School where all members of our school feel valued and respected through our weekly assembly. Students, teachers and parents gather together to celebrate the learning that has occurred during the week.

Pro social behaviours are reaffirmed through our school oath at the beginning of our whole school assembly each week.

"I am proud to be Australian.

I enjoy the peace and freedom of my country.

I will obey the rules and laws of my country.

I will look after the world I live in by caring about the environment.

I will do my best to make this country great."

Our sense of belonging to a school community is re-affirmed through the singing of the school song at the end of each assembly.
